It was the start of a new generation, and who else was to set the standards other than The Roots? Their album How I Got Over was the group’s take on the strength and weaknesses of modern society, as they incorporated a range of different sounds and melodies once again. A notable existence of indie rock was heard on the 14-track studio album, which was something slightly unheard of based on previous years. It’s likely that their role as house band on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon could be remembered from this point onwards.
“Walk Alone” was guided by a notably strong piano riff, and gave The Roots a chance to turn back the years as each rapper gave their verse a sense of continuing a particular journey, no matter what may be currently blocking the vision.
“I always been on my own ever since the day I born, so I don’t mind walking alone.”
