When it reached 1996, the band had certainly established themselves over a four-year period of consistent albums. This was highlighted by the likes of D’Angelo and other popular musicians adding their two cents to Illadelph Halflife. To many people, The Roots offered something special – differing from many of the “gangsta rap” icons that young people just couldn’t relate to. Emotion and general well-being is something that the band incorporates into their sound without thinking, and this project was another example of what they had to offer as a whole.
As always their albums are filled with plenty of gems, but “Episodes” happened to be one that kept its timeless touch for years to come. It was something that sounded rather more tough in terms of lyrics and production compared to their previous work, marking another musical milestone in their long career.
