The Roots: 20 Years

“Duck Down” (2004)

The Tipping Point really put the pen to paper as far as projecting their sound to a diverse audience. The album’s production sounded similar to many other projects that were released in the current year, as they adjusted to a more pop-determined final product, yet maintaining their fundamental ground at the same time. The hard-hitting presence was there through the course of the project, but still managed to incorporate the skill-set of their reliable knowledge.

One of the last tracks on the album was titled “Duck Down,” and is a song that sums up the year of 2004 in a nutshell. The Roots were really showing how powerful they could be in the industry, marking their territory for well over 10 years in the game.

“See me coming, better tuck those chains ‘cause you don’t wanna feel them thangs.”
