The Wire 2012 Soundtrack

The Wire is officially 4 years out on retirement, collecting that nice pension, and it was about time that we went on a TV binge to re-watch the phenomenal five seasons of one of the best shows to ever grace a television set. Between Omar letting the shotty speak, classic quotes from Avon Barksdale and Brother Mouzone and watching the epic rise of the next generation of G’s come up in season four, The Wire will never get old.

Throughout our time watching the series, we noticed the songs they played on various episodes when the gangstas rode around in their cars or heard in the clubs (see: Hurricane Chris “Ay Bay Bay” and J-Kwon’s “Tipsy“), but we had to laugh at the selection of that time. They actually put out a soundtrack in 2008, but it didn’t make such an impact.

So we thought to ourselves: What if by some sort of heavenly stroke of luck, God spoke it to light and there was a season six? Would Michael ever run into Marlo? What if that season, through Avon Barksdale, they explored life inside the prison like the second coming of The Shawshank Redemption? What would that soundtrack sound like?

Welcome to what the new age The Wire OST would sound like if it were up to us.
