On Monday, when Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars won “Record of the Year” and “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” at the 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards, many believed Trinidad James‘ contributions on the single had eclipsed to an award from him as well.
Turns out that was wrong. A rep for the Recording Academy confirmed to Complex on Friday.
The rep clarified that “Record of the Year” and “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” awards are only given to the artist and producers of the songs. Considering he was interpolated on “Uptown Funk,” that did not qualify him for a win. In comparison, “Song Of The Year” would have got him a GRAMMY because everyone who contributed to the song would have received an award for their efforts.
This minor technicality is a shame for his trophy cabinet, but at least he’s still getting a check from the profits. Jame$ has already made over $150K thanks to that eight percent cut.
