An Opinion on Why Tyler the Creator Publicly Vented Not Being Classified with Kendrick, Drake & Others

Tyler Creator Publicly Vented Hip-Hop Frustration

And everything he said is correct. . .

With Pusha T saying Tyler the Creator has the album of the year for now, many of those around him have always had those same sentiments. As Tyler the Creator and Odd Future garnered commercial success, this was no surprise to us – who met the team in New York before they officially blew up.

Last year, Tyler won a GRAMMY for the 2020 Best Rap album with IGOR. While accepting the award on stage in front of the entire entertainment industry; he said that he’s never felt fully embraced by the culture of hip-hop.

That spoke volumes to us here behind-the-scenes, who’ve always supported the Los Angeles musician over the last 11 years. With the average lifespan of rapper being “hot” lasting under three years; Tyler has been of the only few artists to continuously elevate with success and quality content.

During his interview on Ebro on the Morning, Ace vented a brief second on watching the biggest artists in rap over the last few years disappear. Due to lack of creativity, money mismanagement, drugs and leeches; this happens more than often when an artist’s career comes to an end.

After a decade of work, that’s not being recognized by more people; Tyler is still never in anyone’s conversation. However, when everybody does their list for best rappers in the game, he’s never on a list.

He has the discography of sales, albums, rhymes and production to compete with anyone.

His most recent project made a debut at number one on the US Billboard 200, giving him his second consecutive chart-topping project. Currently, Ace is creating possibly his best work to date. Being a student of music and learning history from previous greats (see: Pharrell Williams); Tyler has done everything right in approaching the genre.

However, still being called a weirdo by music peers and rap listeners, is the same thing happened to him during his adolescent years in grade school. Ace is likely ultimately feeling underappreciated for his contributions in the game; because he’s not rapping about murder and drug usage.

Sadly, that’s the biggest thing promoted to the youth, as rappers not connected to someone from the streets get overlooked by the masses. Luckily for Tyler’s talents, he’s been one of the rare cases where an artist putting out good content can have success without the dumb shit.
