Unspoken Nas, Jay-Z tension. .
For whatever reason, the Nas and Jay-Z situation has carried over three different decades. Fans on social media brought the situation to mainstream attention, pointing out that Jigga released Everything is Love on the same day as Escobar’s Nasir album with Kanye West.
Then, it was referenced that every major Nas release, had a Jay-Z release trying to overshadow it this century. After ending their war many years ago, the two NYC legends made peace with various collaborations.
Much like everyone else, we thought the two had rode off into the sunset and didn’t look too much into the release coincidences. Well, this week, more speculation was brought up again, when Pharrell Williams released the “Entrepreneur” single, on the same day as his Esco’s King’s Disease album.
A collaboration with Jay and Pharrell, wasn’t going to detour anyone from listening to a new Nas album. If you remember, we saw them last year at the Webster Hall show for Roc-a-Fella. However, it’s only been surface level communication in public.
The same can be said, when DMX and Jay-Z conducted an entire US tour together and still had competitive static. Nas and Jay will always have a respect for each other and will never again make diss tracks, because they know each other’s power and have witnessed violent issues happen in the social media age.
The first time they had a music war, many incidents happened between street members of both camps; and thankfully, nobody died. So, we commend both brothers for having maturity, because this would not be safe in the iPhone-era, where everything is filmed. The two had a behind-the-scenes business issue, which ended their friendship.
They’ve remained cordial in public, but it’s not how it was before a deal an alleged deal at Roc Nation was made. These two have always moved entirely different, throughout their careers, so it’s not surprising they’re not in the same circles.
Jay has always had a President mindset, with telling the public what to do with trends; while Nas has always inspired people to think for themselves. It’s just two different frame of minds with the greats have always had.
If you look at the NFL, Jay took all the backlash from public and is the type to do whatever it takes to get his team in the door and try to help the culture. Esco has never been one to jeopardize his character in any business move.
Lastly, those same insiders are also saying that the opening track King’s Disease is Nas reference Jay-Z in a few of the lines. Pay close attention to that album.
In nigga language, an offer was made for a deal at Roc Nation and a Queens rapper said no.
