Wale vents about the current state of the game & being misunderstood
Earlier today, Maybach Music Group rapper Wale stopped by Hot 97’s Morning Show to talk the upcoming release of his fourth studio album, The Album About Nothing. In the interview, he opened up on paving the way for artists like Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa, for labels to just drop music from the few with real fan bases, in comparison to chasing the charts and sales – that will eventually come.
He soon cited Saigon’s debut album The Greatest Story Never, which came out 7 years after its initial release, and how it put a strain on his career after not having a hit-record for record companies. Rosenberg mentioned how so many artist don’t have singles like “The Way,” “Bad” and “Lotus Flower Bomb,” which revealed Wale he lucky enough to have cross-over records for his female base, but still considered himself an emcee at heart.
The conversation also touched on the controversial Washington Redskins name, which both D.C. natives Rosenberg and Wale opened up on being diehard teams for the franchise their entire lives. He also spoke briefly on the rift with Meek Mill and August Alsina’s health status after his collapse on stage last week.
