4th quarter weekend on the way?
With his Beauty Behind the Madness album only a year old, The Weeknd has been generating some serious anticipation for his upcoming third major album. After announcing a collaboration with Daft Punk that was in the works and that he was working with the original team of producers from his 2011 classic, House of Balloons, the Toronto artist is insisting his new LP is his best to date.
In an interview with VMAN, Abel went to discuss the project’s direction saying it’s a fictional book inspired by true events from recent and past experiences. While he’s been recently outspoken on social issues, including the Black Lives Matter movement, the X.O. artist doesn’t plan on bringing the politics world to his music – just yet. He said, “I wish I could make music about politics.
I feel like it’s such an art and a talent that I admire tremendously, but when I step into the studio I step out of the real world, and it’s therapeutic.” As listeners eagerly await an official single for his new project, take a look at how he plans on putting out his best work to date below.
“There are new inspirations on this album. The production feels aggressive but still sexy. The Smiths, Bad Brains, Talking Heads, Prince, and DeBarge play roles. We wrote it all in Los Angeles. I think it’ll be the best-sounding album I’ve ever done. It’s hard to label the sound because, when I first came out, nobody would label it R&B. I just want to keep pushing the envelope without it feeling forced.”
