In lieu of Twitter’s recent (failed) attempt at a music service, YouTube will give it a go. Relative to Spotify, YouTube’s premium on-demand service, however, will be accompanied with video. The service, planned to launch later this year, will be offered on mobile platforms as well with a ‘free’ and ‘premium’ (offline listening and ad-removal) tier and unlimited access to artist’s full catalogs.
While YouTube declined to comment on the recent report, we can assume that’s a comment in itself. Assuming they are trying to keep a good amount of the service under wraps until it’s official launch, there is also a strategy in their music subscription service as their owner, Google, could also pair the service with other Google products (mostly Google Glass we’re assuming), in the future. As Google already secured the licenses needed for such service much earlier this year, it would appear all the pieces are set as YouTube creates justification for a service with a $10 monthly fee.
With the recent addition of iTunes Radio not too long ago, not to mention Spotify’s endless reign in music streaming, would YouTube be something YOU would use? What would you want to see added to use their service for $10/month? Let us know in the comments!
