Upgrade Bench Players
In order to make a successful title run, you must have bench contribution. Fact. Both teams that lost in the conference finals – Thunder and Pacers, found this to be true for the second year in a row.
The Pacers overhaul must extend to their bench and everyone should be re-evaluated with the exception of Luis Scola and CJ Watson, both who are solid role players. Evan Turner, who has yet to live up to his 2nd overall draft pick potential is a free agent and appears that he will not be resigned. Ian Mahinmi, the backup center, gave a few solid minutes but really only served as a poster boy for SportsCenter highlights.
Once again, not having a first round draft pick will hurt them in this area as they cannot bring in young talent to develop off the bench. This offseason will be very important for the Pacers if they want to improve, there needs to be at least three new faces on the roster by October.
