Limit The Heat In Transition
When the Miami Heat can force turnovers and get out on the break, they are unstoppable. This is a well known fact throughout the league and you can bet money Greg Popovich has “Limit Turnovers” at the top of his priority list going into the series.
If the San Antonio Spurs fall into making the same mistakes they made in the previous series with the Thunder, they will suffer the same fate as last season. In the games where they were blown out, they allowed the Thunder to score a lot of baskets in transition and began forcing the action piling up the turnovers. Although they are not as athletic as Miami, they are a very well calculated Basketball 101 team and play their best basketball when they control the tempo, take quality shots, and limit turnovers. But, the Heat are a very aggressive defensive team and can dictate the flow of the game without you knowing until they are on a 8-0 run wondering “how did that just happen?”
This task will fall on Tony Parker, Patty Mills, and Manu Ginobli for the most part as the primary ball handlers for San Antonio. Control the tempo, limit the turnovers and ride off into the sunset as champions.
