College basketball enthusiasts might remember Jimmer Fredette from his days at BYU, when he took the nation by storm and became College Basketball Player of the Year in 2011.
It’s been a tough road since then, playing for a number of teams since being the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings. After not living up to expectations in Sacramento, he went on to the Chicago Bulls and New Orleans Pelicans, before ending up in the D-League.
VICE caught up with Jim as he lit up teams in the developmental league, ultimately being invited to the All-Star team and winning himself MVP honors.
Jimmer talks about his passion for the game, his time at BYU and his family breaks down what it’s been like watching him go through the ups and downs of going pro. Even through all the bad times, Fredette continues with a positive attitude, doing the best he can for himself and his family. With his fan following up and actors like Ben Stiller watching him play, the New York Knicks have taken a flyer on him and he has joined the squad after his stint with the Westchester Knicks.
Let’s hope he makes a name for himself in the Big Apple.
