A Look at Kobe Bryant’s GM Role with the Lakers after Landing Tyson Chandler

#Mamba-In. .

Since Kobe Bryant has been retired from the NBA, his behind-the-scenes role with the Lakers has increased over the last year. It’s to the point where he’s essentially the general manager of the team. Over the summer, he was instrumental in convincing LeBron James that he needed Rajon Rondo and Lance Stephenson – if they wanted to compete with the Golden State Warriors.

What the rest of the league (minus the Miami Heat) hasn’t figured out, that the only way to beat Golden State, is to beat them down. In the past, LeBron has gotten players to cater to his needs, which means a bunch of spot shooters for him to penetrate and kick out.

Well, the Black Mamba is trying to end that nonsense, as he’s convinced Tyson Chandler to come. This weekend, the veteran big agreed to terms with a buyout of his expiring contract in Phoenix.

Now, aligned with Lakers, Tyson is expected to become the immediate starting center on the team. Although JaVale McGee has exceeded expectations in LA (also won a game in the finals for Golden State last June); it’s only so long that you can keep him on the court before dumb shit starts happening. We still expect a mid-season trade for the team, with young pieces leaving.

However, this new move of a non-jumping shooting big man around LeBron, confirmed who we thought was running the show all along. The reason why Kobe isn’t openly wanting the GM title, is because he doesn’t want anything to fall back on him, if something goes wrong.

So, Kobe willl continue to watch the games as a fan, weekly, and decide what the team needs to do better with captain Rondo. Let us know in the comments what you think.
