Minnesota Vikings fans all collectively held their breath in the third quarter when Adrian Peterson went down and couldn’t get up. The superstar running back got his foot caught up in a tackle on a 5-yard run and had to be carried out without putting pressure on his leg.
The team said he would have an MRI Monday to find out the severity of the injury.
Coach Mike Zimmer didn’t seem concerned after the game, but by the way AP was hurting and being carried out, fans are already assuming the worst. Especially how injury prone he’s been in the past. Peterson was seen later on in crutches and a brace on the knee.
The Vikings still beats the Green Bay Packers 17-14 thanks to Sam Bradford, who connected on a pair of touchdowns to Stefon Diggs. Bradford finished the game 22/31 for 286 yards.
Get well soon AP.
UPDATE: Doctors have diagnosed Peterson’s injury as a torn meniscus in his right knee. Coach Zimmer has not given a timetable for his return and has not ruled him out for this week. Depending on what route AP and doctors take, he may be out a few weeks.
UPDATE 2: After weighing out his options, AP has opted to have surgery on the torn meniscus, a decision that will have him out 3-4 months. He tells ESPN that he’s doing it with “faith and optimism.”
