Fight the the year? The Problem Makes A Statement
Following his victory last spring against Carlos Molina to win the vacant WBA International Light Welterweight title, Adrien Broner returned home for a special grudge match at Cincinnatti’s U.S. Bank Arena. Leading up to the fight, there was much tension against his newcomer opponent Emmanuel Taylor, who even initiated a confrontation during their face-off just days leading up to the event. The Problem wouldn’t disappoint his home crowd, as Rich Gang’s Rich Homie Quan, Young Thug and Birdman joined the festivities to perform “Lifestyle” in his entrance.
While Adrien danced his way to the ring giving the fans a show before the big fight, it was all business once he stepped through the rings. Emmanuel came out in early rounds taking an early lead on the score cards , even giving Broner his first ever career face cut – but The Problem wouldn’t be solved tonight.
Late in the 12th and final found, Adrien would knock down Taylor with a vicious left hook to put finishing touches one of the best fights we’ve seen in boxing this year. During his press conference, Broner would call out WBC Inter-Continental Light Welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse; who won in controversial fashion earlier in the night against Roberto Ortiz, to capture the WBC Silver Light Welterweight title. Adrien said if he had the choice, he would fight Matthysse right then and there. While that bout looks to be an intriguing one to start 2015 action, Broner is definitely showing confidence after his loss to Marcos Maidana last December heading forward.
