The Yankees start season below .500 but A-Rod has come to play
Opening week hasn’t been something the New York Yankees or their fans enjoyed, following their horrific first game of the season. The team soon bounced back with a much-needed win Wednesday night against division rival Toronto Blue Jays, and were looking to win their first three-game series of the series in the Thursday closer.
Unfortunately, Yankees starting pitcher CC Sabathia was under the Masahiro Tanaka syndrome to follow-up with another 4 run inning in the early stages of the game. Down 5-1 in the bottom of the 6th with no hope from the line-up and more importantly the bullpen to stop the bleeding, Alex Rodriguez would give the team some intrigue blasting his first homer since his yearlong 2014 suspension.
The homer to the deep left-field seats marks the former three-time MVP’s 655th career homer was his first since September 20, 2013. With the season finally underway, A-Rod is now only five HRs behind Willie Mays for passing him up as fourth overall all-time.
