A-Rod Joins Derek Jeter and Wade Boggs as only players to homer for 3,000th Career Hit
The date June 19, 2015, to Alex Rodriguez that means it’s been 21 years since he first stepped in the field. So far A-Rod’s season has been nothing short of solid and record breaking. Climbing up the charts, in his historic career. Stretching it currently to 2,631 games as of June 19, 2015. Today Alex Rodriguez joined a club of only 29 people, in typical A-Rod fashion.
The soon to be 40-year-old was penciled in the lines as the designated hitter, and batting 3rd in the lineup. That meant he’d get his first try at hit number 3,000 in the first inning. The opposition would be none other than Justin Verlander. Yes the former Cy Young winner, so going hit-less for the day isn’t out of the question. Unless, of course, Rodriguez, who in lifetime against Verlander is 10-for-28 with with a double, four home runs, four walks and a .357 batting average, gets the best of the Tigers’ pitcher.
So here we go, the bottom of the first starts, in steps Brett Gardener. The lead off man gets out, followed by Chase Headley. In steps A Rod, focused in, as his usual self. He waits no time as he jumps on the first pitch he sees. The ball came in and then exited the ballpark, promptly. Joining Derek Jeter as the only players to get their 3,000th hit as a member of the New York Yankees, both hits beings home runs at home. The fans cheered in excitement, as A-Rod rounded the bases.
Another milestone reached for Alex Rodriguez in the 2015 MLB season. On June 19, 2015, the 10,035th at bat in the 2,631st game, A Rod achieved his 667th home run, 2,004th RBI, 1,957th run and most importantly hit number 3,000.
