Throw his name in the MVP ring
Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans were hosting the red-hot Atlanta Hawks on Monday night and the big elephant in the room was whether or not ATL would continue on their roll and make it 20 straight games with a win. The Pels might be on the outside looking-in as far as the playoffs in the Western Conference are concerned, but that doesn’t mean they have no game. Everyone knows the West is STACKED.
Fresh off missing one game thanks to a left groin injury, Davis and the squad made sure the Hawks remembered who they were dealing with, effectively ending that 19-game winning streak.
The ‘Brow was unstoppable, cleaning up misses on the glass, putting back dunks, hitting long two-pointers from the top of the key and nothing was slowing them down.
The Hawks were behind by as much as 20 at one point, always trailing the Pelicans for much of the game. Although Atlanta can now feel the pressure of that winning streak off their shoulders, New Orleans have a little run of their own going: winning 6 out of 7 games.
Davis ended the night with a double-double, scoring 29 points and bringing down 13 rebounds. Eric Gordon also had 20 for the Pels, while Tyreke Evans dropped 15 and had 12 assists.
On the other side of the ball, Jeff Teague and Paul Millsap led things for the Hawks, with 21 points and 15 points respectively, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.
This was Atlanta’s first loss since December 26th.
