Argentina Advances to World Cup Final With Win Over Netherlands in Penalties

It was a boring game, until it was REAL good.

Netherlands was no stranger to winning penalty kicks. Just last game, they went to PK’s with Costa Rica and pulled off the win to send the CONCACAF squad home.

After an uneventful 120 minutes of play, Argentina sent the match to a shocking set of penalty kicks, after things continued tied through extra time. Arjen Robben almost ended the game in the 90th minute, when he had a clear shot at the goal but was swept in the box at point blank range. It’s not like Argentina didn’t have opportunities, but it seemed like the Netherlands defense was stopping them one pass short of goal.

They saved all the excitement for the penalty kicks.

Ron Vlaar with the miss.

Lionel Messi gives Argentina the 1-0 lead!

Arjen Robben is clutch.

Ezequiel Garay. Goal.

Wesley Sneijder shocks the world and misses.

Maxi Rodriguez sends Argentina to the World Cup final.

Argentina will now face Germany in the 2014 World Cup final on Sunday. The last time the Argentines made it to the final was in 1990, coincidentally playing against and losing to the Germans that year. The two teams also saw each other in the 1986 World Cup finals, where Argentina took home the victory.

Looks like the third time will be the charm for both teams.
