Speechless at the outcome
In what was supposed to be a routine Pac-12 matchup that USC battled through to win, turned into an absolute shocker at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, in California.
The score remained close through halftime, with the Trojans leading by two points, 17-15. Both sides kept things close through much of the 3rd quarter as well, with no definitive momentum shifts, until the 4th when both teams came out slinging.
Cody Kessler broke out with an 8-yard run to kick things off and things remained quiet until the three minute mark, when Mike Bercovici connected with a 21-yard pass to D.J. Foster. With USC trying to run down the clock thanks to the ground game, Javorius Allen saw a hole down the middle and sprinted his way to a 53-yard touchdown. It truly appeared like the Trojans had this win sealed and in the bag. Especially because the Sun Devils had no timeouts.
Then on the ensuing possession for Arizona State, Bercovici hit Cameron Smith on a pass, which saw the receiver blaze past the secondary and into the endzone after 73-yards.
USC would continue running down the clock, but gave the ball back to AZSU with practically no time left. With :07 seconds left, Bercovici would lob a prayer into a crowd of Trojan defenders, and right into the hands of an untouched Jaelen Strong for the 46-yard touchdown to give them the last-second win on the road.
The home crowd was stunned.
USC let the game slip from their fingertips and they now have two losses for the year.
Do remember, this is the same Arizona State team that beat USC last season right before Lane Kiffin got fired. Now Steve Sarkisian gets a taste of that Sun Devil upset pill. AZSU is now 4-1 for the season and 2-1 in Pac-12 play. USC falls to 3-2.
