Bad news in Pittsburgh for Steelers fans. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee in yesterday’s 30-15 loss against the Miami Dolphins and will have surgery to repair it today. Luckily, the damage isn’t as bad as it could have been and he could potentially return as early as two weeks from now.

Doctors close to the team said it will only be a repair job on the knee, rather than a full repair.

There is no timetable for his return as of yet, but the Steelers hope it will be sometime after their BYE week. One thing we know for sure is that he will not start against the New England Patriots this upcoming week. Landry Jones will take his place.

Roethlisberger suffered the injury in the second quarter on a play where he was scrambling out of the pocket as Dolphins defensive end Mario Williams chased him. Williams barely tapped his foot on the bootleg and Big Ben subsequently went down and walked to the locker room on his own will power.

He left the game for one series and returned to play all of the second half, but it was visible he was not at full strength. Diagnosis after the game showed he tore his meniscus.
