Going into this year’s NCAA men’s basketball season, Ben Simmons was the considered to be the consensus number one pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, even before stepping foot on the LSU campus. After the Tigers failed to reach the tournament with a disappointing 19-14 record (they also declined to participate in the NIT), Simmons is now declaring for the draft and hiring an agent.
Although most NBA executives would still take him No. 1, the gap for him being the unanimous first overall pick has lessened, with the rise of Brandon Ingram from Duke. Either way, he will be one of the top two picks to go on June 23.
Even with a disappointing season, Simmons was the only player in the country that averaged 19 points, 11 rebounds and four assists as a freshman.
