WELCOME TO HEARTBREAK
Going into the game, the weather was the main storyline between the Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks. Everyone was speculating how effective both teams would be, particularly the birds from the Northwest. But in the end, it was nerves that affected the outcome.
That -6 temperature surely affected the scoring, but both teams were battling for most of the game. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter where things started getting interesting.
Field goals were the only thing that were getting made and only from the Vikings side, because it was 9-0 at the end of third quarter. It was a shocker to see the Minnesota defense hold the red-hot Seattle offense scoreless for all that time.
After a muffed snap that went from ugly sack to a first down and more, the Seahawks were back in business. Russell Wilson made a play out of nothing and connected with Tyler Lockett in the middle of the field to get the squad in the red zone. That set up a touchdown by by Doug Baldwin in the corner of the end zone.
The Legion of Boom then came to the rescue, forcing a fumble on Adrian Peterson and recovering. That ensuing drive helped the Seahawks take the one-point lead with a field goal.
With less than two minutes to play, Teddy Bridgewater was team down the field and it looked like the Vikings were going to pull off the impossible, at home.
It all came down to a 27-yard field goal in the frigid wind for Blair Walsh.
No good.
It was a complete shocker for everyone watching. The Seahawks players fell to the ground as a sign of relief. Vikings players couldn’t help but to react to the missed field goal.
Seattle now heads to Carolina to play against Cam Newton and the Panthers in the second round of the playoffs.
