In what was expected to be a tough encounter beforehand, Brazil managed to make it through to the next round after Chile missed their final penalty. Luiz put Brazil into the lead around 20 minutes into the game, who managed to direct the ball into the net from close range. The footage looks like it came off the opposing player, but the goal was awarded to the former Chelsea defender.
Just 10 minutes later, Chile’s star player Sanchez made the score level, after picking up on a mistake from the Brazil defence, cutting in and placing the ball past Cesar.
It was all square.
Despite the second half not having as much energy, one of the biggest moments of the game was Hulk allegedly handling the ball to assist his shot into the net. No goal.
The final moment of the game saw Chile strike the crossbar, but no one could make a breakthrough. Even after 30 minutes of extra time, there was no winner.
After a shootout full of misses, Jara’s penalty miss against post was enough to put Brazil through to the quarter finals.
