It is no secret that Kevin Durant is playing incredible basketball right now, and quite possibly is the best player on the planet. His scoring tear this season has put him into the position to go for his first MVP award and he is looking to take the Thunder deep into the playoffs. However his current play for OKC isn’t the only thing buzzing around the league this morning, as reports have surfaced about the Brooklyn Nets targeting KD when he becomes a free agent in 2016.

With the way the league is set up now, it is no surprise that speculation is already running rampant about something that is two years away, and there is no shock that the Nets would want to be involved. According to the report, the Nets are ready to go all out for Durant and are willing to begin shifting around their cap space to do so. As of right now the only player that will be under contract that year on the team is PG Deron Williams.

There has been no indication that Durant would be willing to leave OKC when his contract is up, but there is also no doubt that he would at least test the free agency waters to ensure getting a max deal. This is actually the second rumor we have seen about KD’s upcoming free agency, with Jalen Rose being the first, saying that he thinks Durant will bolt to Houston to join Dwight Howard & James Harden.

Though this is still two years away from truly getting interesting, like we saw with LeBron James in 2010, it will be a story that is worth watching going forward.

On Friday , the Nets will chase Kevin Durant around the Barclays Center court, hoping to contain the NBA’s most dynamic scorer. And some two years from now, they likely will be joining the crucial chase for his signature on a contract.

The impending Durant free agency bonanza should start picking up steam next season and will undoubtedly engulf the NBA in the summer of 2016. And make no mistake: the Nets are targeting Durant, the 25-year-old offensive juggernaut, even if it’s too early to predict their odds.
