Carmelo Anthony Reveals He Would Take Pay Cut To Stay With Knicks

The free agency chronicles of Carmelo Anthony have been a major storyline of the NBA this season. Nearly everyone has commented on what his potential summer plans are, or who he is trying to recruit to New York. The latest bit of news has come straight from the mouth of Melo down in New Orleans for All-Star weekend. While speaking to reporters, Carmelo revealed he’s willing to take a pay cut to stay with the Knicks and make the team better if he had to; versus receiving a max-contract.

The Knicks have Melo’s “Bird rights,” which means they can go over the salary cap to give him the most money. If he were to take a pay cut it, that would free up the Knicks to add more talent to their roster and make them more competitive.

Carmelo has already stated that he is going to test the free agency market, but it will be interesting to see if he is only willing to take less than a max deal with the Knicks, or a possibly sign with another sexier team. From what Melo is saying right now, the goal for him is to attract new talent to the Knicks and chase after a championship. It seems that one of the players on Carmelo’s and the Knicks radar has been PG Rajon Rondo.
