Uh oh, Knicks fans! Today, Carmelo Anthony made some very serious comments about his future in the city to the New York Observer. In the conversation, he said that he will test free agency after the 2014 season concludes. Yes, that means that any team with the cap space will have a chance to add Carmelo Anthony to their team.

‘Melo explained that every player deserves to go through the free agent process at least once in their career and he is looking forward to it. The Knicks can still pay ‘Melo more than any other team; but as we have seen before in the NBA, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the player will return. If the Knicks would happen to implode at any point during the year and not live up to their high expectations, then it would be very interesting to see what ‘Melo would do. Where else could Carmelo take his talents to? Plenty of teams have cap space and that includes the struggling Los Angeles Lakers.

“I want to be a free agent,” Anthony told the New York Observer. “I think everybody in the NBA dreams to be a free agent at least one time in their career. It’s like you have an evaluation period, you know. It’s like if I’m in the gym and I have all the coaches, all the owners, all the GMs come into the gym and just evaluate everything I do. So yes, I want that experience.”
