It was a historic night for Carmelo Anthony at Madison Square Garden tonight. The Charlotte Bobcats let him get in the zone and he went off for 62 points, shooting a ridiculous 23-35 (that’s a whopping 65.7% from the field) shot attempts and even hitting a halftime buzzer beater three-pointer from half court. By the 3rd quarter, it was lights out, because he had already dropped 56 buckets.

Melo’s performance beats out Kobe Bryant’s previous record of 61 points at MSG and the legendary Bernard King, who was the last New York Knickerbocker to hold the crown. He is also the 13th player in the history of the NBA to join the 62 club.

Imagine is Mike Woodson would have kept him longer in the 4th quarter? Carmelo was taken out to a standing ovation with about eight minutes left.

Although he was one point shy of being the 7th player ever to reach 70 points in a game, history was made at Madison Square Garden tonight. All because he watched a Muhammad Ali video prior to the showdown. All of his teammates went on record to say he had a different demeanor to him as soon as he stepped on the court.

Congrats to Carmelo Anthony!
