The Zen Master wants to come back
As the New York Knicks prepare for another year of not making the playoffs, the speculation of Phil Jackson returning to the sidelines has once again started. Carmelo Anthony has been vocal about recruiting free agents to the team this summer with team management and recently had a private meeting with Phil about whether or not he would accept the idea of him coaching home games.
After discussing the direction of the Knicks and plans for the NBA Draft, Melo told reporters that he shot down the rumor saying, “Phil ain’t coaching no more man, so let’s dead that rumor. Phil ain’t coaching no more.” With Kurt Rambis likely to remain the coach next season, Jackson was planning to have him do road games – something Carmelo thought would distract the team.
He also said, “No. No. No. I don’t think that should be accepted. I wouldn’t accept that if that was the case. Phil is cool, man. He doesn’t need to be on the sidelines no more. He put so many years into this game. I don’t think he’s thinking about coming back down on the sideline. I hope not.
Let him ride on out. Let him sit out and be the president.” Well, team owner James Dolan has been rumored to re-address the future of the team, which could include the firing on Phil Jackson, as well as looking to trade Melo to another team for a clean rebuilding process. With The Zen Master on the hot seat, we’ll be monitoring this situation, as free agency and the draft unfolds in June.
