The Knicks lame-duck season reaches new peak levels
Over the last six weeks, New York Knicks President Phil Jackson has parted ways with Amar’e Stoudemire (and his contract); as well as both J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert. While the team was touted by some to at least make the playoffs as lower seed, the Knicks has endured arguably their worst season ever.
From new coaching, management and players exiting, New York currently has the worst record among all teams in the league – at 10-43. According to multiple sources, superstar swing-man Carmelo Anthony will officially shut down for the 2015 season. The 30-year-old player is set to undergo surgery in the coming days for his left knee, after dealing with soreness issues throughout the year. Last weekend, he drew much criticism for participating in Sunday’s All-Star Game, which he was the host for this year’s big festivities.
While another All-Star Weekend is highly unlikely to happen in his career again, this announcement was long overdue since January. Melo can prepare himself for next season over the next nine months and recruit free agents to the Knickerbockers after their top-seeded draft pick this June.
ESPN sources say that Knicks will officially rule Carmelo Anthony out for rest of the season later Wednesday
