Carmelo Anthony Visits Young Rikers Island Inmates

‘Melo offers hope for the youth

Carmelo Anthony‘s #StayMelo web series isn’t just taking the cameras to Puerto Rico for a New York Knicks training camp or the toughest slums in San Juan or the good life in Cuba, he’s also going inside Rikers Island to visit some of the young inmates hoping to inspire them.

Amidst the news reports of teenagers being abused by the correctional officers, ‘Melo offers an ear to listen and some encouraging words for some of them because he can relate to their struggle. He’s known people close to him who have stayed inside those same walls and has been in correspondence with them throughout their stint in prison, so he knows what the young guys are going through.

In the video, you can see him try to talk to some of the guys one on one and in a group, soaking in the experience as he takes a tour of the jail. He said he felt blessed to have gone there and reached out to the youth and hopefully he got through to some of them.
