Carson Palmer Out For The Year With Torn ACL

NFL: St. Louis Rams at Arizona Cardinals

Down goes Palmer

The Arizona Cardinals might be sitting at the top of the NFC West at 8-1 right now, but they just lost one of the key pieces to their offense for the entire year. In yesterday’s game against the St. Louis Rams, quarterback Carson Palmer suffered a torn ACL in his left knee, when he was grabbed in the shoulder by Mark Barron for a sack in the 4th quarter.

The bad news for Arizona comes just two days after Carson Palmer signed a three-year contract extension worth about $50 million.

This is Carson’s second injury if the year, after missing action earlier in the season (three games) with a damaged nerve in his throwing shoulder. He will undergo surgery when the swelling in his knee goes down and a timetable for his return has been set for July 2015.

It should be noted that he also went down with an ACL and MCL tear in the 2006 playoffs.

The Cardinals will now look towards backup Drew Stanton to take over the helm again, who filled in for a few games earlier this year when Palmer was out with injury.
