Cavs Fire Head Coach Tyronn Lue After 0-6 Start

It was a tough offseason for the Cleveland Cavaliers, considering they lost the best player in the NBA in LeBron James. How has that affected them going into the 2018-2019 season? They’ve lost every game without him up to this point.

After starting 0-6 for the year, owner Dan Gilbert has had enough and informed head coach Tyronn Lue he is being relieved of his services.

Though he inherited a good team, things weren’t always all good for Tyronn Lue. He won a title with the Cavs during his first year as head coach, breaking the 52 year drought with the city, but he also had to take time off because of stress and lack of sleep, with his health in a decline.

Ultimately, he went 128-83 in his three-year tenure with Cleveland, including three straight trips to the NBA Finals.

It is being reported that a difference of strategy between veterans and young players has contributed to the firing, with GM Kobe Altman pressuring Lue to play younger players more minutes as opposed to aging veterans like Kyle Korver and JR Smith. Lue was not abiding by these suggestions.

Larry Drew will be promoted to interim coach as a result of Lue’s firing.
