With the ESPN Films “30 for 30” series season two well underway after last weeks “Broke” episode that shed light on athletes past money mishaps to help future generations; we’re granted another episode this week with “9.79*.” In the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea the world witnessed the fastest sprint in Olympic history from the 100-meter men’s final.
Within 48 hours of winning the gold medal, Ben Johnson tested positive for anabolic steroids which started an Olympic scandal that still haunts the sports and the other 7 sprinters nearly 25 years later. British documentary film director, Daniel Gordon discusses the nightmare with the eight runners that’s spanned over 2 decades after the incident along with how they’ve been able to continue their life after the scandal.
