With a small fraction of Premier League games remaining in the 2013/14 season, Chelsea stepped up to shock Arsenal with a surprising 6-0 win at home. Despite both top four teams having a respected record so far, Chelsea were quick to strike in the fifth minute as Eto’o received a neat pass and curled the ball into the corner. Just two minutes later, Schurrle managed to add to the scoreline by hitting a stunning shot past Szczesny. Matters went from bad to worse for Arsenal during the 16th minute, after Hazard’s shot struck the hand of Oxlade-Chamberlain in the area, but the referee made the bizarre mistake of giving a red card to Gibbs instead of The Ox. As expected, Hazard responded by taking the penalty and making it 3-0 still in the early stages. Not long before half-time, Torres managed to flick the ball into Oscar, who made no mistake in tapping into the net.
The second half gave the blues a chance to add even more goals to their tally, with Oscar picking up his second of the day by capitalizing on an error made by Arsenal, as well as Salah securing number six with an admirable finish.
Chelsea increase their lead at the top of the Premier League, with Arsenal remaining third, and giving City a chance to go above later today.
