Mr. Mullin returns home to S.J.U.
Last Friday, St. John’s parted ways with 5-year coach Steve Lavin, who went 97-72 throughout his tenure there. The Big East team peaked with Round of 64 berths, including one just last weekend. Unfortunately, the Queens-based University felt change was necessary to take the next step and quickly hired school legend Chris Mullin.
The former three-point specialist and sports anchor now returns to his alma mater, to official become the head coach of their basketball team. This marks the first time Mullin will coach in any capacity since being retired from the NBA since 2001 and will have a lot of his plate for the off-season to recruit proper talent.
He’s expected to be formally introduced Wednesday morning as the 20th coach in the school’s history.
