Chris Paul Elected President Of NBPA Union

This summer has been a busy one for Los Angeles Clippers star point guard, Chris Paul. Following the hiring (or trade acquisition) of Doc Rivers in June, CP3 and the Clippers agreed to 5-Year/$107M extension to ensure he would play some of his prime years in LA.

Wednesday evening, the NBA Players Association elected Paul to become the next President during the union’s summer meeting in Las Vegas. After 18 months of turmoil where the union had a split and different opinions from former president Derek Fisher that led to the firing of Billy Hunter, as well as lawsuits currently pending.

Check the jump for more information on the hiring.

Paul now becomes the biggest union name since Patrick Ewing in 2001 and will be accompanied by newly appointed Vice President’s Roger Mason serving first, with Steve Blake and Anthony Tolliver as well. Chris served as VP of the union for quite some time under Fisher and learned how to go about things the right way without causing a rift.

Yesterday, Paul said

“I think I have a lot of experience, being around and knowing what’s going on”. “Moving forward is not about me or any one person. It’s about the players as a whole. It’s going to take a lot of work, but we have a great executive committee, a great group of guys who are ready to move forward.”

LeBron James flirted with the idea of becoming the new NBPA president, but decided he wouldn’t have the time to give the job serious attention it requires. We can all hope now that the league no longer sees shortened lockout seasons with fresh faces now in control.
