A risky move for Jerry Jones
The Dallas Cowboys have significantly improved their defensive line, agreeing to terms with defensive end Greg Hardy on a one-year deal worth a reported $11.3 million that could go up to $13 million with incentives and bonuses throughout the year.
The downside? Hardy is awaiting to hear whether or not he will face a suspension for violating the NFL’s domestic conduct policy for an incident in May of 2014 where he was arrested and charged for threatening to kill his girlfriend. All charges were eventually dropped when Hardy reached a financial settlement with his girlfriend and she refused to cooperate with the district attorney.
The NFL continues to monitor the situation as it remains under review, with a resolution coming sooner rather than later. There is talk around the league that Hardy might be suspended anywhere from one to six games, depending on how much evidence officials find in the domestic violence case that would warrant such punishment. Until they come to a verdict, he was free to sign with a team even though he remained on the commissioner’s exempt list.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were also courting Hardy, but they backed out last minute because they didn’t feel good about the situation.
