Damian Lillard Becomes Mayor Of Portland After Rare Walk-Off NBA Homer. Blazers Defeat Rockets 99-98 To Win Series, 4-2!
Earlier this week, former Portland Trail Blazers coach Jack Ramsay passed away after lengthy battle with cancer. His funeral was held Thursday in Florida, which many team members travel down after their game 5 losing effort in Houston the previous night to pay their last respects.
The night began with a tribute to Dr. Jack 77, as the entire Moda Center was hoping to bring some positive energy to the city with a home-clinching game 6 victory for the 2014 first round NBA playoffs. After winning both game 1 and 2 in Houston, the Blazers had their clamps on the series going up 3 games to 1 earlier this week. Following a lackluster performance on the road in game 5, the team would come out with one goal on their mind to close their back and forth series against the Rockets. Hit the jump for more on the story and video highlights.
As you see above, the Blazers have finally won an NBA series for the first time since the 2000 season. Portland had been haunted in the post-season since their 15-point 4th quarter blown lead to the Los Angele Lakers on the road in game 7 for an advancement to the NBA Finals. Before the playoffs started, we picked this series to be the best among the bunch and it definitely lived up to every expectation we were hoping for. The series had a differential of 4.5 points throughout its 6 games, which both teams battled back and forth for the competitive stretch. Houston thought they had the game wrapped up with after a late loose-ball layup recovery from Chandler Parsons to give his team a 2-point lead.

With only .9 left on the clock for a potential game 7 destination, Damian Lillard stepped up to the plate (pun intended) and drained a walk-off three pointer to send his Portland Trail Blazers straight to second round. After years of enduring injuries from both Brandon Roy and Greg Oden, the team now advances for to the second for the first time in 14 years. While Portland briefly gets to enjoy the high of one of NBA’s most rarest moments, they will now await the winner of the game 7 Texas series featuring the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks.
