It’s the offseason, but DeAndre Jordan is enjoying his time in Rio De Janeiro with USA Basketball. The U.S. beat Argentina in the quarterfinals yesterday and will face Spain in the semifinals.
Before the team faced off against Argentina, Jordan told ESPN what his thoughts were about winning the gold, and it may shock some people.
“I think they’re above NBA rings. I may get in trouble for saying that, but I believe that. I feel like this is more special. You’re not just playing teams in the U.S. You’re playing teams from all over the world. And this is even more special because there’s an NBA champion crowned every year, but this is every four years.
You’ve got to really think about that, man, because it’s extremely special.”
The second round draft pick has never been to the Western Conference Finals, let alone the NBA Finals and the Los Angeles Clippers don’t look like they will any time soon. Even with the team they have right now. Their window of opportunity closed fast and might be all the way shut.
Though NBA Championships is what solidifies NBA careers, a gold is nothing to look down on. And may be the best some players can achieve during their tenure in the league. Word to Carmelo Anthony.
