Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2)
The obvious elephant in the room, for arguably the most formidable opponent Floyd Mayweather, Jr., who can fight in the squared circle is Manny Pacquiáo. The Filipino sensation may have lost back-to-back fights in 2012, which put a huge hindrance on the big fight, but he’s been taking the necessary steps to become the number two overall pound-for-pound fight in the world of boxing. After regaining his WBO Welterweight title last spring against Timothy Bradley, Pac-Man is fighting once more in 2014 next month against current WBO Light Welterweight Champion and undefeated rising star Christopher Algieri.
Last summer, Manny’s own trainer Freddie Roach even blamed him for avoiding the fight with providing proper blood work to Mayweather’s team many years ago – but has cited recent years of Floyd and company being in a payout war with Bob Arum and Top Rank. With even Mayweather’s father coming out last week and guaranteeing the fight to happen next year, we’re hopeful next summer the world will get their wishes.
