The New York Yankees didn’t want their legendary shortstop in a different uniform next season, so to make sure that didn’t happen, they locked down Derek Jeter on a one year deal worth $12 million. By wasting no time into the offseason, both the Yankees and Jeter can focus on getting better heading into 2014.

It was a very strange year for Jeter and the Yanks, with both parties looking to rebound this upcoming year. By keeping this contract low and for only one year, it allows the Yankees to spend money in other areas of need. One of those areas will undoubtedly be going after Robinson Cano, who is seeking to get the biggest contract ever, in the history of professional sports. Even though this past year was very different for the Bronx Bombers, you can expect them to be to their usual selves in the offseason.
