Should D-Rose retire after latest injury?

The Chicago Bulls have received unfortunate news that their star point guard Derrick Rose will have to undergo season ending surgery for a meniscus tear in his right knee. Earlier today, Rose reported right knee pain, which immediately was a red light to Chicago coaches and trainers. Derrick was taken to an MRI exam, that revealed the unfortunate news of a right knee medial meniscus tear.

After missing consecutive seasons in 2013 and 2014, the former 2011 MVP will likely be out for another season after the repair is completed. He’s set to undergo surgery Wednesday morning, which will give concrete information on how long the now 26-year-old guard will be out of action.

Limited to just 31-minutes a game, Rose was averaging 18 points and 5 assists in his comeback of just 46 games – nearly more than his last two seasons of play combined. The Chicago Bulls currently sit atop the Eastern Conference’s Central Division, but the surging Cleveland Cavaliers are only a half-game behind them in standings.

With Tom Thibodeau and the team front office having a now public rift, things could get uglier in the post-season, with their former franchise star out of action again. Whether the Bulls are willing to bring back Rose remains to be seen, but he’s owed $41 million over the next two seasons until the summer of 2017.
