The NFL coaching carousel spins away today, as the Detroit Loins announced that Jim Caldwell will fill their head coaching vacancy. Caldwell now replaces Jim Schwartz, who was fired after a disappointing season. The Lions were in a position to win the NFC North and squandered it away down the stretch in true Detroit fashion. Many believe this was the best coaching job available; featuring a sexy roster consisting of Calvin Johnson, Matt Stafford and Ndamukong Suh, among others.
This will be Caldwell’s first head coaching gig after his firing in Indianapolis, where he followed the footsteps of Tony Dungy. Jim was most recently the offensive coordinator in Baltimore and helped the Ravens win a Super Bowl last year, but it will be interesting to see if he can bring some discipline to a roster that has all the talent to be great and just seems to need that extra push to get over the hump.
Was this a good hire by the Detroit Lions? Will they be in the playoff hunt next season?
