One of the shocks this NBA offseason was undoubtedly the fact that Dwyane Wade left the Miami Heat and went to the Chicago Bulls. One, because he was considered a HEAT lifer and everyone expected him to return to the team, even though the organization was slow to pay him what he deserved. Secondly, the Bulls were in what everybody thought as “rebuild mode” after trading Derrick Rose. That quickly turned into “let’s win now” from one week to the next.
Chicago now gets a hometown boy and there is a more positive outlook on the season.
In talking to SportsCenter’s Cari Champion, Wade said his banana boat crew of Chris Paul and LeBron James told him to follow his heart and were shocked at the fact he didn’t have the contract he deserved at the time. If you asked Dwayne at the end of the offseason if he ever saw himself in Chicago, he would have told you no, but everything came about in quick succession.
Wade admitted he was afraid to go to the Bulls because he didn’t want to step on Jimmy Butler‘s toes, but a conversation with him changed that. Butler told him he just wants to win and emphasized how Wade on the team would certainly help the cause.
Dwayne briefly spoke on Pat Riley’s reaction to losing him, how he’s felt with the city of Chicago showing so much appreciation and more.
