For nearly 19 years Mariano Rivera has been the Yankees greatest pitcher and arguably the best Yankees player throughout the years of their recent championship years. Although Derek Jeter’s always been the face of this Bomber’s team, Mo’s been the team’s most consistent player on the franchise leading the team to five World Series.

E:60 reporter Tom Rinaldi accompanies Rivera to the small fishing village in Panama where he grew up and gets the future Hall-of-Famer to open up about his final season, the injury that almost ended his career, and his place in baseball history.

This year Rivera’s led the majors in saves with 16 and is on pace to break the all-time record of 62 in a season done Francisco Rodríguez in 2008. One year after tearing his ACL, Mannie’s having one of his best seasons with an ERA of 1.47 (2.20 for the career).

Before the 2013 season started, he announced it would be his final in the majors, and would be leaving at the conclusion of the season. He’s never won a Cy Young award in, but winning one this year would be the icing on the cake for an illustrious hall-of-fame career.
