In one of the biggest Premier League fixtures of 2014, a fighting performance from Chelsea gave them a confident 3-1 win against Manchester United this afternoon. Off the back of a convincing start from United, their opponents were able to go ahead in the 17th minute, after a deflected shot from Eto’o was pushed past De Gea.

Just before the half-time whistle, Eto’o then grabbed his second by reacting to some poor defending from United, which has been a strong factor in their below-average season so far. It seemed Mourinho had the better of the team talks as Eto’o picked up his third goal just after the restart, which put Chelsea in a healthy 3-0 lead for the remainder of the game. After coming on as a substitute for Young less than 10 minutes after the goal, Hernandez was only able to grab a consolation goal later on during the 78th minute.

Today’s result keeps Chelsea in third, now six points above both Liverpool and Tottenham, while United sit in seventh after losing the same amount of games as their league position.
