Goal-Line Technology In Action

Is this the wave of the future?

One of the new technologies that is making it’s debut at the World Cup in Brazil is goal-line technology. For those not too familiar, this system is there to help support referees in their decision making, in whether or not the ball crossed the line for a goal. After controversial calls at the last World Cup and in previous big events, we saw the technology put to work during yesterday’s France vs. Honduras match.

The call came during France’s second goal, when the ball hit the post after a Karim Benzema shot bounced off of the post and into goalkeeper Noel Valladares’ hands and across the line. From the naked eye, it was hard to determine what happened and many people were left baffled, but from the replay, you can clearly see the ball crossed the goal line and was properly called a goal.

Even though the final outcome was 3-0, the score quickly could have changed had it not been for the technology making the right call. With goals making a difference in group play, every score counts and can change the momentum of any given matchup.

We’re sure this isn’t the last time we’ll see goal-technology at the World Cup either.

Are you happy with the new technology?
