Whether fans, players and management know it, a new technology has arrived in the NBA with the Golden St. Warriors being one of the first teams to successfully use it. ESPN releases a video showing off a new complex tracking system entitled “Sport View” to collect data stats from optical recognition software tracking every player on the court.

The new innovation cost Warriors management a whopping $450 Million and is $100K to keep running a year. League numbers from Sport View are suggesting more teams should shoot more three’s. With Stephen Curry shooting currently 8 three’s a game on average with stats saying he should put up more.

Warriors head coach, Marc Jackson debunked any ideas of increasing threes which he said the team will continue to play defense first then have quality possessions. Jackson is open to switching his offense with the data being accurate (for the most part), as he understands the role of point guard playing one in his career, but isn’t jumping the ship quite yet. In the future, the Warriors are looking for a full-time work for Sport View data collection to potentially provide in-game adjustments in the future.

Whether more teams are willing to invest in the latest invention for the NBA (and all sports in general) only time will tell if the masses will be open to new technology for data tracking as opposed to watching “old film tapes.” Watch the video after the jump.
